Although First and GCC have made a bad situation worse with unfair fairs and a what seems to be a monopoly; buses were always going to be difficult in Glasgow with the awkward road infrastructure in the city centre (compounded again by the inner city ring road).
Perhaps we need more routes that don’t go through the centre – supplemented with cheaper (or free) cross centre connecting buses.
I’d also like to see Argyle Street opened up for buses and taxis. With the focus for footfall traffic being Buchanan Street it would be no great loss for the stores from Central to Marks and Spencer and a gain for the businesses from Stockwell Street to High Street. It may even help with the gentrification of Ingram Street and the streets leading back down to Argyle Street.
