What people have said so far (Glasgow)

Better buses supporter ‘Disgruntled’ has written a response on our website to the letter from First Bus Chief Ronnie Park. Since it is so long and in depth we hrought it was worth putting into the news section too. Dear Better Buses Thank you for contacting First Bus on behalf… Continue reading…

I live in Govanhill, it takes me 30 minutes to walk to work (and I do whenever I can) but for me to get the bus it costs £1.85, the same it costs for a person to travel the full length of the bus route. The service doesn’t warrant this… Continue reading…

Why do first bus operate drastically reduced services in the week between xmas and new year? These are not bank holidays and lots of people work normally during this time. They also don’t provide detailed info regarding early morning services on their Saturday service dates, as per my bus route… Continue reading…

I see First have responded to the report (from the Scotsman) “First Glasgow, the city’s main bus operator, pledged to take the report’s findings “very seriously”, but questioned their accuracy. A spokeswoman said: “We have concerns the sample size would appear to be limited and therefore not an accurate representation… Continue reading…

A safety issue, particularly concerning older people, those with disabilities, prams etc. Some drivers don’t wait until the person has seated themselves, driving off before they are ready. And also, some drivers don’t stop even though people have pressed the bell – if they don’t see anyone standing up, they… Continue reading…

I have just returned from a visit to Perth in Western Australia, and it is interesting to compare public transport provision in the two cities. Perth is probably about the same size as greater Glasgow, but is very remote from other Australian cities. Public transport in Perth, known as Transperth,… Continue reading…

I really wish there was a ticket system. I only take the bus four mornings a week which is not often enough to justify a pass. I am constantly scrambling for exact change for the 90p fare. My bus travel would be so much easier and more efficient if I… Continue reading…

The buses in Glasgow are extremely expensive in comparison to other cities in the UK as far as I know. Paying £1.80 for a single fare for 6 stops is excessive. We should be linking up our rail, bus and subway with a pay as you go system like London’s… Continue reading…

My biggest gripe – for now! – is (First) buses running late or failing to appear at all…or running several minutes early. I rely on a half-hourly service, and a missed bus means a long wait at the side of a busy road. I appreciate that there are some factors… Continue reading…
